Anker Power Bank Recall: My Experience and Review of the New Anker 533 Power Bank (PowerCore 30W)

Anker recently announced a recall for some of their Anker 321 Power Banks (PowerCore 5K, Black) due to potential safety risks. The issue stems from a manufacturing defect in the lithium-ion batteries, which in rare cases could lead to overheating, smoke, or even fire hazards. My previous power banks were part of this recall, and after verifying the model and serial numbers, I participated in the recall process.
Recall Notification – Thanks to Amazon
As a long-time Anker customer, I was only notified about the recall through my Amazon account, despite using Anker products for years. Kudos to Amazon for ensuring this communication channel worked effectively, allowing me to be informed in a timely manner. However, this raises the question of how Anker could improve its direct customer communication in such cases.
Safety Risks and Recall Process
The affected power banks were sold between March 2023 and June 2024. Anker organized the recall in close collaboration with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in the US and other regulatory agencies worldwide. The company advises all owners to verify the model number on the back of the power bank and immediately stop using the device if it matches the affected units.

I promptly contacted Anker, provided the necessary information, and the exchange process was smooth and fast. Within a few days, I ordered the new Anker 533 Power Bank (PowerCore 30W), Model Number: A1256 https://amzn.to/47sZBgN ) ,which  is the replacement for the recalled units. Anker reimbursed me in full after I submitted my receipts.

Disposing of the Affected Devices
Anker provided clear instructions for properly disposing of the affected devices. I responsibly disposed of the old power banks at my local recycling center, ensuring the lithium-ion batteries were recycled in an environmentally safe way.
First Impressions of the New Anker 533 Power Bank
The new Anker 533 Power Bank (PowerCore 30W) has proven to be an excellent replacement. With triple-device fast charging, it features two USB-C ports and one USB-A port, allowing me to charge up to three devices simultaneously with a total output of 30W. This feature is particularly useful for charging my iPhoneMacBook Air, and Apple Watch at the same time, especially during travel.
One of the standout features is its pocket-sized portability. Measuring just 3.58 × 1.88 × 0.98 inches (9.9 × 5.2 × 2.6 cm), and weighing 222 grams, it’s lightweight and compact, making it easy to carry around in my bag or even a pocket. This is a major benefit during travel, where space and weight are critical factors.
Anker’s ActiveShield 2.0 safety system is also a welcome addition, ensuring that the temperature is continuously monitored to provide superior protection during charging. This added layer of safety gives me peace of mind when using the power bank on the go.
Additionally, the power bank’s universal compatibility allows me to charge not only my smartphone and tablet but also headphonesVR headsets, and other devices. This versatility has made it an essential part of my travel kit.
Conclusion and Outlook
While the Anker recall revealed a serious safety issue, the company responded swiftly and professionally. My experience with the new Anker 533 Power Bank has been overwhelmingly positive so far, and the quick refund process made the whole ordeal easier. I’ll continue to test the performance of this new power bank and provide updates on its long-term capabilities.
For travelers like me, the combination of fast charging, compact size, and robust safety features makes the Anker 533 Power Bank an ideal companion. It remains to be seen how Anker will improve its communication regarding product safety issues in the future. As a tech journalist, this recall has been an insightful experience, and I will continue using Anker products if they continue to meet my high expectations.

More to come.
