2505_Weekly Tech Report: Apple Issues and International Service Glitches

There were so many bugs over the Christmas holidays and the turn of the year, along with our media preparations for the CES 2025 in Las Vegas: the flood of issues and error reports unfortunately prevented us from publishing all incidents in real time. Nevertheless, no report is ever lost – every single bug is documented. Gradually, we will work through these publications until we return to the most current weekly status in the upcoming reports. We welcome ideas or comments and direct exchange. Thank you very much!
During the week (January 6, 2025 to January 12, 2025), a series of technical irregularities and service issues emerged in our daily operations, spanning various areas.

Summary of the Key Incidents

• Apple Ecosystem:
As early as January 6, 2025, it became apparent that unusual behavior occurred with the audio playback of Apple Music: an iPhone that was connected via the synchronization function with a Mac erroneously played the audio through the Mac. At the same time, the Pages application on the Mac unexpectedly crashed. The published crash logs, including indications such as “BUG IN CLIENT OF LIBPLATFORM” and specific exception data (EXC_BREAKPOINT, Code 5), point to deeper software issues.
Additionally, on the same day, instability was reported with the use of the T-Mobile Hotspot, which was operated via an iPhone with a US Telekom eSIM. The resulting faulty activation of the personal hotspot also led to an unintended offline display in Pages. Moreover, two different issues occurred with iMessage: in one case, there was a delayed reload of the photo library when sending screenshots, and in another instance, the content of individual messages only appeared in full after manual editing.

Disruptions and System Crashes

On January 7, 2025, further serious incidents were recorded in the Apple environment. For instance, a iPhone 16 Pro Max completely crashed, while at the same time the SharePlay feature in the USA – despite an initial join confirmation – unexpectedly paused the music. The iMessage dictation feature in the USA fell into a state where it no longer responded reliably. An ensuing attempt to disable this function resulted in an endless loop with a loading spinner, indicating a serious malfunction.

Voice Control and Customer Service

On January 8, 2025, an extraordinary incident occurred in Las Vegas when a timer was triggered by a voice command (“Hey Siri Timer 20 Minutes”) – even though the iPhone was locked and the user was masked. At the same time, customer service deteriorated: the ING Hotline reported that the hold message in the queue suddenly terminated the call. Also, on January 9, 2025, customer service issues were repeatedly recorded. In addition to an abruptly canceled Uber ride attempt shortly before pickup, the Allianz 24/7 Legal Protection Hotline experienced automatic hang-ups and, at times, insufficient support, leading to significant waiting times.
On January 11, 2025, it was also determined that ING no longer operates a 24/7 hotline, further complicating accessibility, especially in relation to blocked cards.

Other Technical Irregularities

Additional observations included, on January 10, 2025, a brief display error on Apple TV, during which a QuickTime icon with waves was shown when skipping the intro, as well as, on January 12, 2025, a disappointing performance of the Telekom US 5G network when using a Prepaid Unlimited card in Las Vegas.

Conclusion

The events of the past week paint a picture of diverse technical challenges affecting both hardware and software. The incidents within the Apple ecosystem, combined with difficulties in network connectivity and significant shortcomings in customer service by several providers, raise fundamental questions regarding the stability and reliability of current system integrations. The documented issues call not only for a deeper technical analysis, but also for enhanced communication from the affected companies in order to restore user confidence.

For interested readers and industry observers, it is therefore essential to closely monitor further developments and official statements from the affected providers.

Addendum: Archived Bug Reports

In reviewing our internal archives, we have discovered additional error reports beyond those already documented, which provide further insight into the ongoing technical challenges. The following documentations from the period between December 31, 2024 and January 4, 2025 complement our previous weekly review:

• December 31, 2024 – Autofocus Issues on the iPhone 15 Pro:
When using the camera app on the iPhone 15 Pro, irregularities with the autofocus were observed, particularly when filming a TV screen. This incident points to potential difficulties in focusing under specific shooting conditions.

• January 03, 2025 – Message Transmission Issues via Apple Watch:
According to reports, about six messages composed on the Apple Watch apparently did not reach the recipient. This error indicates transmission problems within the messaging functionality of the smartwatch.

• January 04, 2025 – iCloud Copy-Paste Error:
When copying and pasting documents using keyboard shortcuts from one folder to another, an older iCloud version was often transferred, even though the changes had already been saved. Notably, only the document’s preview image was not updated – a clear indicator of the error state.

• January 04, 2025 – Playback Issue with Apple Music:
It was observed that Apple Music remained in play mode at 0:00 without an apparent reason, while the AirPods Pro remained continuously connected. Only after repeatedly skipping forward and backward in the playlist did the music resume – a behavior that was not immediately reproducible under mobile data usage.

These additional reports underscore the complexity of the challenges in the interplay between hardware and software, which will continue to require careful observation and detailed analysis. We will further elaborate on these incidents in future updates and thank you for your continued interest and constructive exchange.
