2518_Weekly Tech Report: Watch Silence, Meta Endless Loops & Digital Dead Ends in Böblingen

During the week of March 24–30, 2025, numerous everyday and travel tech systems failed or behaved unexpectedly …

Wearable Sync and Siri Dictation on the Apple Watch

On March 24, 2025, a newly set up Apple Watch refused to display current chat replies, instead delivering outdated message content. Two days later, on the same watch, a simple Siri dictation for “Bonjour” failed completely, despite all system and network settings being correct.

Cross-Device Call and Hotspot Chaos

Also on March 24, 2025, an incoming call on the iPad was silent, even though both devices were signed in with the same Apple ID and on the same Wi-Fi network. Hotspot connections were even worse: a MacBook Air couldn’t find the iPad hotspot (“Network Not Found”), and a Steam Deck (Beta) intermittently showed offline despite briefly connecting via an iPhone hotspot. In one instance, the Deck even joined a completely unrelated Wi-Fi network.

App and Service Disruptions in Daily Life

On March 25, 2025, empty shelves at Edeka Böblingen caused frustration: the inventory system apparently had no stock data for long-lasting reusable shopping bags. At the same time, technical glitches in Uber, FreeNow, and local taxi dispatch centers blocked bookings around 8:45 AM, as all systems reported “no vehicles available.”

Emergency Call Outage in Eastern Saxony

On March 26, 2025, the dispatch centers in the Bautzen and Görlitz districts were intermittently unreachable—emergency calls failed over both cellular networks and the WLAN fallback—until the system came back online after about 30 minutes.

Unexpected App Malfunctions

Throughout the week, various apps proved unreliable: the NINA warning app on March 28, 2025 reported no alerts, messages froze in the chat window of the Steam Beta, and the iOS version of ChatGPT transcribed a simple voice note into Cyrillic characters instead of clear German text.

AR/VR Headsets on System Strike

On March 29, 2025, after an update, a Meta Quest 3S imposed “Travel Mode” with a black screen and sensor warning, while the Quest 2 shut down normally. Even logging out of the Steam web client required the awkward workaround of “Switch User.”

Productivity and Calendar Latencies

Between March 25 and 30, 2025, Thunderbird on macOS crashed on launch when various add-ons were enabled, and Apple Calendar invites arrived on the iPhone about two hours late—despite iCloud Push being active.

Conclusion

A week full of minor technical hiccups—with potentially major consequences when systems stop talking to each other or simply go silent too soon. Digital sovereignty starts with reliability in the details—and doesn’t end at the hotspot or the shopping bag.
This weekly review shows: even top-connected systems can leave gaps in daily life when they fail—from emergency calls to VR headsets. Stay tuned and keep an eye on updates!
Note: This report summarizes documented incidents between March 24–30, 2025 during stays in the Böblingen region and beyond …
