In the week from March 31 to April 6, 2025, it became apparent once again how fragile our digital everyday life can be even with modern devices and services. User reports this week show issues primarily in Apple’s ecosystem as well as sporadically in third-party services and onboard systems of the Deutsche Bahn in Germany.
Network & Messaging Services
As early as Monday, iMessage messages got stuck even though the iPhone constantly reported 4G and 5G reception on Vodafone. Even restarting the device brought no improvement; the speech bubbles stubbornly remained in the “sending” state.
File Management and Drag-and-Drop
On Tuesday, it was noted that PDF files copied and pasted from iCloud into iMessage were automatically renamed—a peculiarity that did not occur when using drag-and-drop with the “Send as Copy” option, thus providing maintenance-free file names.
Location Services and Payment Systems
In Frankfurt am Main, users did not receive “Find My” push notifications for devices left in the compartment, and in the Apple Settings, the warning suddenly appeared: “Location Sharing Not Available – Server Connection Failed,” even though the internet connection was intact. At the same time, the contactless reader in the Deutsche Bahn onboard restaurant failed, even though Apple Pay is officially supported. In parallel, the DB App for the RB 27 from Köln Messe Deutz to Köln Hbf showed a misleading status (“Do Not Board”), even though the train was ready.
Productivity Tools on Mac and iPhone
On the Mac, transcripts of incoming voice messages could not be copied. In Numbers on macOS, entered text disappeared without a trace after an update, and simultaneous editing of the same iCloud spreadsheet on iPhone and Mac was “extremely buggy.” On the iPhone, an unwanted magnifier zoom function activated in Numbers, which could only be removed by completely restarting the app. Pages also crashed unexpectedly several times.
