2529_Weekly Tech Report: “A Week Full of Technical Pitfalls”

In the week from May 12 to 18, 2025, it became clear once again how closely our everyday lives are intertwined with technology—and how quickly small glitches can bring everything to a halt.

ARD Mediathek on Apple TV: Live stream minute counter failing

The week kicked off with a peculiar outage in the ARD Mediathek on Apple TV: during live streams, the minute counter went silent, leaving viewers puzzled.

EasyJet website: Terms and conditions not accessible

Soon after, the EasyJet website proved nearly unusable because the terms and conditions simply could not be opened—a serious red flag for anyone booking flights online.

Apple ecosystem under pressure: iMessage profile & Watch update

Meanwhile, Apple users wrestled with strange synchronization issues: the profile picture in iMessage on Mac disappeared multiple times, while it remained unaffected on the iPhone. An update for the Apple Watch also failed due to a duplicate error message that blocked the promised upgrade.

Overbooked TGV bookings between Brittany and Paris

Travelers were hit harder: all TGV connections between Brittany and Paris were sold out two weeks in advance—a clear sign of an overburdened infrastructure.

Problems sharing iCloud folders & FlixBus login

Those trying to share an iCloud folder on iPhone faced endless loading times. Even established mobility apps weren’t spared: the FlixBus iOS app refused to allow the “Hide My Email” feature when signing in via “Sign in with Apple.”

Chemnitz train station: Tight track change just before arrival

The grand finale was a tense situation at Chemnitz station: two minutes before the scheduled arrival, there was barely enough time to navigate two staircases and two elevators between the tracks, along with extensive travel tech equipment.

Conclusion

These incidents remind us that while technology brings tremendous convenience, even small errors can quickly become stumbling blocks. For the coming week, we can only hope that manufacturers and service providers deliver patches promptly and restore their services to full stability.
Note: This report is based on documented incidents between May 12 and 18, 2025 in Germany. All events mentioned are based on user observations and reports of various incidents.
