2530_Weekly Tech Report: “Hotspot Chaos, Streaming Glitches & Co.” – When Technology Fails Again

In the week of May 19–25, 2025, a variety of disruptions affecting ChatGPT, Apple TV, iPhone, Apple Watch, Meta Quest, and AirPods Pro frustrated users. Whether on mobile data networks, streaming, or during workouts, few platforms escaped unexpected glitches.

AI Assistance at Its Limits

On the go in hotspot mode, the ChatGPT app on Mac refused to work: SSL errors and network connection drops prevented conversations from loading; in the Safari browser, subscription verification and connector retrieval hung up.

Streaming and Smart TV Mishaps

The Apple TV showed an offline status despite active Wi-Fi, incorrect times, and AirPlay errors (“Unable to connect to ‘Attic’”). Even restarting and power-cycling did not stop the NordVPN app from automatically reconnecting to the last session.

Communication and iOS Freezes

In FaceTime, video calls sometimes unintentionally switched to audio-only—the caller’s speaker deactivated automatically. On the iPad, missed calls and push notifications piled in after a period of inactivity, while iMessage chats appeared empty or suddenly popped up in new conversations.

Wearables and Data Sync Issues

The Apple Watch and iPhone clashed: photos and screenshots only synced hours later, and during active workout tracking, incoming calls and voice commands (“Send message”) failed. The watch showed as offline even while recording fitness data.

VR Update Disaster and Audio Frustration

On the Meta Quest 3S, the system update refused to install—only starting a screen recording triggered the installation. Meanwhile, AirPods Pro annoyed users on YouTube and FaceTime with one-sided audio and interference until a manual reconnect in the charging case helped.

Conclusion

Last week demonstrated how fragile the interplay of connected devices and services is: SSL drops, streaming interruptions, sync gaps, and update hangs threaten smooth operation. Users now hope for timely software patches and more stable releases to reduce digital frustration.
Note: This weekly review is based on documented incidents between May 19 and 25, 2025, in Germany. All reported disruptions are based on user observations and support reports.
