In the week of May 26 to June 1, 2025, technical disruptions piled up, once again revealing the limitations of modern software and system integration. Especially within the Apple ecosystem and everyday services like FaceTime, Siri, AirDrop, and iMessage, issues emerged that significantly impaired the user experience.
Siri Stumbles, Dictation Fails
Voice interaction should by now be second nature – yet Siri showed major weaknesses this week. For instance, the assistant initially responded as expected to a noise cancellation command via AirPods Pro, but fell completely silent just one minute later in the exact same setup. Even more severe: multiple complete freezes occurred while attempting to dictate messages – both at the start of dictation and during the process. One user had to restart their iPhone completely just to be able to type again.
Additionally, a strange behavior occurred when starting a timer via Siri: although the voice command was correctly registered, Siri remained active for an unusually long time – the music volume stayed lowered for up to 60 seconds. Dictation via Threema or iMessage was also unreliable – in some cases, no input was recognized at all.
Apple Services Lose Reliability
The unreliability wasn’t limited to voice functions. iCloud Drive also showed issues: when copying a folder, macOS refused the process, citing that the folder name was too long or contained invalid characters. Also noteworthy: the password-sharing service didn’t work between iPhone and Mac on the same Wi-Fi – despite correct settings on both devices.
The “Recognize Text” feature in the Preview app initially failed completely on freshly taken screenshots – only after several minutes of waiting did the text recognition function as expected. The new macOS 15.5 update was also bumpy: after restarting, a confusing system message appeared, suggesting the Mac had shut down due to a problem – even though the reboot was triggered normally via the update.
FaceTime Logic Breaks Down
A particularly confusing user experience was observed during a FaceTime video call: after sharing the screen, the user was kicked out of the video window and landed on the home screen. The video feed was gone, with only the audio remaining. Only manually tapping the FaceTime bar and reactivating the camera restored the original state – a needlessly complex process for a core system function.
Photos, AirDrop, and iMessage: Transfer Chaos
A standout (negatively) was the frustrating experience of transferring photos from iPhone to Mac. Neither AirDrop nor iMessage worked reliably. While the iPad was correctly recognized, the MacBook didn’t show up. iMessage repeatedly failed with the message “Not Delivered” – a situation that can become a real issue, especially while on the go.
Everyday Issues Beyond Apple
Even outside the Apple cosmos, there were digital disappointments: EasyJet offered neither Wi-Fi nor a simple information page (“During Flight Page”) on a flight – a disappointing experience given modern passenger expectations. FaceTime calls dropped immediately upon leaving Prague Central Station despite an active network connection – likely due to tunnel transit and lack of proper network handoff handling.
Another example of the consequences of digital dependence emerged in Böblingen, where a broken elevator at the train station failed again despite previous technician interventions – shaking both mobility and trust in digital outage reporting systems.
Conclusion
The week of May 26 to June 1 highlights how complex and yet fragile our digitally connected services have become. Whether it’s Siri, FaceTime, AirDrop, or iCloud: basic features continue to fail in everyday use. Expectations for intuitive, stable, and seamlessly working systems are high – as is the frustration when they fall short. Especially when mobile, it becomes clear: the path to a smart, smooth digital world remains bumpy – despite all progress.
