2538_Weekly Tech Report: “Siri Failures, Meta Glitches & Mobile Frustration” – Digital Weaknesses in Everyday Life

During the week of June 2 to 8, 2025, disruptions and technical shortcomings once again accumulated across various systems – from voice assistants and mobile services to VR headsets. The observations highlight how fragile many functions still are – even in the premium segment.

Apple’s Assistant in Everyday Use: Between Misunderstandings and Total Failure

Siri’s speech recognition was under particular scrutiny this week: On a HomePod, a timer was correctly stopped using “Hey Siri, off” – but instead of staying quiet, Siri asked whether she should be completely deactivated. On the Apple Watch, the dictation feature in iMessage failed almost entirely – only word fragments reached the recipient.
Further oddities: Siri activated on the Watch by itself – triggered by normal conversations in the room. And on the iPhone, “Nice, endlich” was consistently misinterpreted as “Neis, endlich.” The fact that Siri’s volume cannot be lowered by voice command – despite being adjustable manually – rounds out the picture of an assistant feature that remains far from practical usability.

AirPods, SharePlay & Music: When the Sound Stutters

The combination of AirPods Pro and Apple Music showed weaknesses once again: Siri didn’t respond during music playback, songs stuttered despite full 5G signal, and SharePlay sessions with Apple Music failed with cryptic error messages. Especially frustrating: A broken SharePlay window couldn’t be closed via the “Cancel” button – only by sliding it down precisely.

Meta Quest 3S: Battery Frustration and System Crash

Several bugs appeared on the Meta Quest 3S. The left controller alone indicated a low battery, even though both were replaced at the same time. During an update, the right controller became completely unavailable – making the headset unusable during this period.
In another instance, the photo mode couldn’t be exited. After a crash while using Amazon Music and MetaQuest TV simultaneously, the system stopped responding entirely – the screen remained black while music continued playing. The screenshot function also failed completely.

Mobile Network & Video Chat: 5G Without Impact?

In Stuttgart city center, FaceTime video calls stuttered despite full 5G signal. Even at Stuttgart’s main train station, only 1 out of 4 reception bars was displayed – a weak result for a modern Telekom network.

Train Trouble & Infrastructure Issues

Between Dresden and Frankfurt, all ICE connections were suspended for several days within a four-hour time window due to construction work. For a central route normally served by direct trains every two hours, this is a severe disruption – with no real alternatives offered.

Cloud, Vouchers & Online Shops: Weaknesses in Digital Detail

Cloud functions also disappointed: iCloud Notes were not properly shared with the Apple account on Mac despite being active. The Watch app further confused users with misleading mobile connection status displays.
In e-commerce, wunschgutschein.de caused several issues: Emails came from a different domain than advertised, activation failed, and the listed support address was deactivated. The Brita online store blocked orders if pre-order items were in the cart – without any prior clarification.

Conclusion

The week revealed numerous system errors, proving that even seemingly mature digital products are vulnerable – whether in the areas of voice control, VR, or mobile networks. Many problems affect core functions like communication, navigation, or UI control. It is to be hoped that manufacturers like Apple and Meta will provide prompt updates – and that users will bring patience and workarounds in the meantime.
